The Thin Man - Depp going for depth - who will be his Nora?

Saddened we will get a remake of such classics - Powell & Loy still light the screen with their quick banter & ability to have fun. Not sure about this one. http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/10/20/johnny-depp-the-thin-man-remake-rob-marshall/

Goodreads Review

The Saturday Big Tent Wedding PartyThe Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party by Alexander McCall Smith

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A wonderful revist to Botswana and the cast of characters. As always, Smith comfortably carrys us through the final days of Makutsi single life, coupled with events to teach and enrich all characters. A great trip experienced while sitting on my sofa dreaming of Gabrone and strong family values. This book ends and I remain smiling - thanks Smith!

Goodreads Review - PYM - Mat Johnson

Pym: A NovelPym: A Novel by Mat Johnson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Solid 4 - a story of B & W that will play forever. Heard about this book on Fresh Air, when M Johnson did the interview, and was intrigued and anxious to see how he dissects Poe. What catagory? Satire, fantasy, racial, roller-coaster, and reminiscent tones of Walter Mosley & Octavia Butler dealing with African/Colored/Black disapora.

Goodreads Review

A Red Herring Without Mustard (Flavia de Luce, #3)A Red Herring Without Mustard by Alan Bradley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Solid 3.5 = Love Flavia series - Comments: good however would like to see some maturity of Flavia as compared to book 1&2. Seems to drag about 3/4th point of book. Many issues facing her and family yet she still wears that precocious cloak while other are evolving/maturing around her. Great characters, scenery, and storyline... Having a hard time finishing this one VS the others.

Movie - FLINT COLLECTION - Love me some FLINT

Flint does what BOND could'nt do - have fun at himself. Storyline: Super-spy Flint takes on a cabal of women plotting to rule the world. - If you have not viewed these 1967 classics - have fun and see. Pure escapism - a couple of lines are priceless - Lisa asks - "why do women find you so irresistible Mr Flint?" FLINT's reply - "Its simple, I don't compete with them." BANG-ON!..
Flint finds that the president has been replaced by an actor Flint's line[with a wistful look] is "An Actor as President?" See more: In Like Flint

Womens Futures????

Great article by Melissa Harris-Perry - "Using small-government, libertarian rhetoric, the Tea Party ushered in a new crop of Republican leaders under the banner of fiscal responsibility. But the aggressive antichoice legislation coming from the new GOP majority in the House makes perfectly clear that belt-tightening deficit reduction is entirely compatible with an older social agenda committed to pushing American women out of the public sphere." Rants - Raves and WHY

I got this in my e-inbox and pissed me off:
Dear Newsmax Reader,
The average American works three months a year, WITHOUT PAY, for the federal government.
If you are in a higher tax bracket, you could be spending up to half your life working for Uncle Sam.
And how is your money being spent? According to a recent report from The Heritage Foundation . . .

Taxes we all hate them - but taxes provide $$ for schools, roads, and other infrastructure. When the Higher Bracket fails to pay, what they reaped; the building of the nation is left to the middle bracket - they are just poor from being drained by the higher and the lower brackets.

Movie - Ageless/Timeless Actor - on my top 5 list

We remember actor William Powell ("The Thin Man," "The Kennel Murder Case," "My Man Godfrey," "Life with Father"), who passed on this day (March 5) in 1984. Be sure to click "Like" if you're a fan of William Powell or like his movies!
